About Aurajoki Group

Founded in 1967, Aurajoki Group specializes in metal coating solutions, industrial services, and structural steelwork. With a turnover of approximately EUR 28 million and 170 employees, the group operates factories in Aura, Lievestuore, Mikkeli, Pirkkala, Saarijärvi, Turku (Finland), and Daugmale (Latvia).

Aurajoki’s focus is on providing high-quality metal processing services while fostering profitable growth supported by data-driven business decisions enabled through Naviloq.

Challenges with Traditional Reporting

Before Naviloq, Aurajoki’s reporting was primarily Excel-based, which caused significant delays and limited transparency. Financial data was difficult to analyze in detail, especially variable costs, and reports were often available only weeks after month-end. This lack of timely and granular data made proactive management and deeper operational insight challenging.

Katja Ahti, CFO of Aurajoki Group, describes the issue:
“Excel report figures did not allow a deeper analysis for why costs were as they were. It was difficult to get results when you cannot see where each figure is coming from. With Naviloq, we can view account and receipt-level data without extra requests to finance.”

Swift Implementation and Evolving Solution

Aurajoki began its BI journey with Staria in late 2020. The Naviloq platform was deployed within a few months, followed by centralizing project forecasts by early 2022. The implementation process was collaborative and adaptable, allowing Aurajoki to build its BI system step-by-step according to evolving needs.

Ahti highlights the importance of flexible deployment:
“A BI project doesn’t need to be fully planned from the start. It’s best to begin with the most pressing need and let other requirements emerge naturally. Staria’s approach prevents the project from becoming too large and complex while adapting to our evolving needs.”

Enhanced Reporting and Transparency

Naviloq significantly accelerated reporting cycles and improved data transparency. Reports that once took weeks are now available much sooner, freeing 2–3 workdays monthly for the finance team to focus on analysis rather than manual data preparation.

“Earlier, reports were only ready mid-next month. The sooner information is available, the more valuable it becomes because there is time to react,” says Ahti.

Predictive Project Management

Aurajoki’s steel construction business, which operates fully on projects, benefited notably from Naviloq’s project reporting tools. Previously, project reports were lengthy, difficult to interpret, and lacked budget monitoring.

With Naviloq, project managers now have real-time visibility into project expenses, invoices, and budgets. Monthly forecasts allow for accurate cash flow predictions and income tracking by project.

Ahti notes:
“Naviloq offers project and customer managers a tool that makes project management easier, showing expenses and income forecasts in relation to the budget.”

Clear Benefits

The key benefits realised so far by Aurajoki Group in their Naviloq journey are:

  • Instant access to key business data. Time previously spent extracting or combining reports is now saved

  • Account and receipt-level visibility. Users can trace figures back to their source, improving data confidence.

  • Cross-functional KPI tracking. Financial, production, and energy metrics live in one reporting environment.

  • Streamlined monthly performance review. Forecasts, cash flow and profitability insights are delivered faster.

  • 2–3 days saved per month in finance. Report automation reduces the time needed for end-of-month preparation.

  • Energy data visualised for decision-making. Consumption and cost data is used in strategy discussions.

  • Board-ready reports without formatting. Output from Naviloq can be directly used in internal and external communications.

“With Naviloq, we can view the account and receipt level, and no one needs to ask us in the financial department for this information separately.”

Supporting Strategic Goals and Operational Efficiency

Today, around twenty users across Aurajoki Group - including production, marketing, sales managers, billers, and payroll clerks - use Naviloq regularly. Management benefits from real-time access to reliable data, which also supports the company’s ‘Responsible Partner’ strategy by enhancing transparency and service quality.

“Information is easily available for everyone in real time, and we know exactly how the figures are formed. This helps us offer better services to our partners,” says Ahti.
